Here we go the final races of the 2009 season. I have not been updating my blog for one major reason, I had not confirmed my final Ironman. But now it is official and I will be racing Ironman Western Australia on December 5th. I am very, very excited and I am currently in some of the biggest training weeks I have ever done for any Ironman. I feel fresh and strong, my fitness at the moment is not 100% but I can feel that I will hit that in the next few weeks of hard training just in time to start a taper for the Race. Not everyone knows but I coach a group of Athletes here in Hawaii and their main race of the year is Western Australia and I have been through many, many of training hours with this group and I decided that it would be best to race along side them. It will give me just that extra boost of energy when I start to suffer to push on knowing that they are all out there with the same challenge to get through.
Over the past few weeks I have done a few races to fine tune my training. I raced a 30k running race where I ran 3 X 39 min 10ks and felt strong. I also did a Sprint Tri over this past weekend and took a strong overall victory by 3 min. I felt strong in all three disciplines and I could have gone a bit faster if I needed to. I have one more Half Marathon this weekend and then it will be 2 more weeks of Head Down wicked hard training. I have also had some bad luck with my Long rides, I have never taken a bus while riding and in the past 2 weeks I have now done it twice. I also left for a 4 hr ride that ended up taking 7 hrs due to weather and flat tires. But at the moment the weather looks good for at least another week, which is awesome.
I am also getting more and More excited about 2010 with the new events pooping up every week. It looks like our sport is becoming a new major sport throughout the world. I can’t wait to finish off some plans for the coming year! I have a few finalized races but I will update that Post Ironman WA. I am all in on December 5th and the competition will be fierce!
