Straight up, its down, u-turning and windy!

haleakala-

Here we go the First day of February is here and things are looking beautiful in Hawaii. I have just returned home from an amazing 10 day training camp on Maui. I got blessed with some amazing weather and rode my bike like no other. The roads on that island are very challenging, if its not Straight up, its down, u-turning and windy. I had a great trip and stayed with a good friend and new Triathlete Eric, he has only done two triathlons in his life and they are The Honu Half Ironman and Ironman Western Australia. Two crazy hard races, what a way to start. I got to ride just about every road on Maui and it was special, I had a few creeping moments out there on some hills where I thought I might not make it, but a coke and a candy bar always got me home. I realize how much I love Ironman Racing and training, its about the adventure, its about doing things that most people would think your insane for doing it, and I really don’t have a great reason. I do it because I can do it and it is such a challenge and well, I love it. On my last day I rode from Sea Level to the top of Haleakala at 10,300 feet, when I came down the hill I felt good so I went for a 4k swim. Now that just sounds crazy but for some reason I trully enjoy those daily challenges.

I also took some real time off after Western Australia so I wasn’t 100% fit coming back. But things are coming along nicely and I finished a long week of hard running last week. I also added a new type of training, one that I have never done but always wanted to try. I now have a personal Trainer who truly kicks my ass 2 X per week, I feel that it is a big part of the puzzle that I have been missing. Les Tin is the owner of Body Dynamics who is very smart at what he does and how he trains athletes. I have always been not too big on that type of training and that type of personality, you know the crazy loud guys who yell and scream in the gym. Luckily Les is nothing like that and is a perfect fit to my personality and work ethic. He has a real understanding to what an Ironman Triathlete needs in terms of Strength and he attacks that head on. I am real excited to work with Les in 2010 and we will see some real results later this year!

My final decision is to Race back at Ironman China, I love it and can’t get enough. It will be a great race this year and if anyone is thinking about making the trip I say do it, you only live once and it will be an adventure you will never forget. It will be my third time out there in the Southern Island of Hanian, and it will be good times. Training will be focused on this event over the month of February and I am looking forward to some challenging workouts. My good friend Chris Mccomrack will be joining me this year and it will surely be a fun race when someone like him is in the field. After China Strongman Japan will be next up, I can’t wait to head down such a beautiful race with my wife Mariane.

I hope everyone is having a great start to there 2010 year.

Cheers,

Tim Marr
